I studied playwriting at Metropolitan State University in Denver in 2012, and have been writing plays since then. My completed plays are described briefly below. I will be happy to send you samples for your private use, non-profit classroom use, or evaluation for potential production upon request.
A play in one act about an aging man overcome with the need to tell a woman who unknowingly had played a pivotal role at a crucial point in his life when they were both 15, and the unexpected consequences of that revelation.
A high school melodrama in two acts about a multi-ethnic threesome, two parents from a different age, and the chaotic turn of events for the threesome, their friend, and their parents. Suitable for high school or family theater.
A one-act play about a self-proclaimed witch and her new-found skeptical friend whose life she threatens to derail the night before he moves away forever. When she comes to tell him good-bye, he says he has to keep packing for his departure. That won't be a problem, she tells him. But she was wrong.
A play in two acts that recounts the true story of an artist from Abilene, Texas who goes to New York the same year as Andy Warhol, but succumbs to alcoholism and returns to Abilene where his life is saved and his art is finally venerated, but at no small cost.
A political satire in two acts about the current state of identity politics and the #MeToo movement.
An historical play recounting the retreat of Sam Houston across Texas with a motley militia of volunteers and panicked settlers as revolution breaks out in 1836. The Mexican army and the Texan volunteers finally clash in a surprising but decisive outcome that opens the door to the birth of the Republic of Texas.
A play in two acts about a crusty, aging anchorman with a gnawing secret, his romance with the producer who supports him despite his flaws, the outside consultant brought in to dumb down the news to drive up ratings, and the tumultuous clash in the newsroom as a hurricane approaches their Gulf Coast city.
A one-act play about a veterinarian and professor who clash over a student lab involving small animal surgery. Human egos more than animal rights will be put to the test, while conflicted administrators weigh the challenge to academic freedom.
A 1-act play about a man and woman who meet for the first time in decades after high school where they had briefly been boyfriend and girlfriend. After brief reviews of their adult lives, they reminisce about their good times and the way they had abruptly ended, treading cautiously into "what might have been."
